Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are additional molars (back teeth) that often do not develop until one reaches their late teens and twenties. These extra molars are ultimately not necessary for effective chewing, and they often do not have room to grow inside the mouth properly. In many cases if wisdom teeth are left in the mouth and not removed, they can cause, pain, infection, crowding, or damage of permanent teeth.

Why Should I Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

  • Pain and stiffness and swelling around wisdom teeth in the jaw bone.
  • Overcrowding (crooked teeth) caused by the pressure of wisdom teeth of permanent teeth.
  • Periodontal disease (gum and tissue damage).
  • Cysts, tumors, and infection surrounding the wisdom teeth that can cause bone loss and damage to the jawbone.
  • Migraines or headaches.
  • Negative effects on past or current orthodontic treatment.

Not Experiencing Active Symptoms?

We Recommend Preventative Treatment

Some patients may not be experiencing active symptoms, wisdom teeth may need to be
removed, as a recommended preventative treatment to reduce any potential problems in the
future.

Dr. Jessen has over 15 years of experience in removing wisdom teeth. Dr. Jessen a board-certified
Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon will safely and effectively remove wisdom teeth under an IV sedation
(Twilight sedation) as well as a local anesthetic for the comfort of our patients.

Once the wisdom teeth are removed, a small number of sutures will often be necessary to seal the opening in the gums. These sutures will dissolve within a few days.
