Tooth Extraction

Tooth extractions may be needed for any number of reasons. Teeth may be severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health.

To avoid these complications, in most cases, Dr. Jessen will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth.

Extraction Process

At the time of extraction, Dr. Jessen will numb your tooth, jaw bone and gums that surround the area with a local anesthetic. This procedure can be done using local anesthesia, IV sedation or general anesthesia depending on patient preference.

During the extraction process you will feel a lot of pressure. This is from the process of firmly rocking the tooth to widen the socket for removal. You feel the pressure without pain as the anesthetic has numbed the nerves stopping the transference of pain, yet the nerves that transmit pressure are not profoundly affected.

Some teeth require sectioning. This is a very common procedure done when a tooth is so firmly anchored in its socket or the root is curved, and the socket can’t expand enough to remove it. Dr. Jessen simply cuts the tooth into sections then removes each section one at a time.

I highly recommend Dr. Jessen and his staff!  My little boy had to have an extra tooth removed from his gums.  My son was super nervous about the surgery.  Dr. Jessen and his staff were so good to him.  I was told by on of the staff members up front that they were teary eyed for my son because he was so nervous and crying.” Dr. Jessen was so patient and so steady with the shot he gave to put him to sleep.  Everything went great with the surgery.  Dr. Jessen’s assistant Michael was awesome, he was so good to us and stayed with us while my son was in recovery and was a bit sleepy.  He answered all my questions.  Everyone was so caring and professional.  Thank you, Dr. Jessen and staff.

When I came in for my tooth extraction. Dr. Jessen explained what would happen to the gum tissue and bone after the tooth was taken out. I had no idea the bone loss and loss of um tissue.  He showed my how this would affect what I eat and how I talked.  After the time he took to explain to me, I decided to have a dental implant. Thank you, Dr. Jessen, for the tooth extraction and for educating me on oral health.

My dentist couldn’t get my tooth out. I was in so much pain and discomfort.  Dr. Jessen saw me immediately, I walked in was seen so fast for surgery.  He explained what he was going to do and asked my how I was feeling and if I understood. Wow! No one had asked my that at a dentist office before. He answered all my questions. My tooth came out so fast and easy.  I have returned to him for 2 more surgeries.  Thank you for being real and professional.
